Rockin' Out

I thought it would be hard to see plane changes in these very pale golden
apples but it was easier than the red apples. I really enjoyed doing this
one, tried to keep the strokes to a minimum. I visited Laurel Daniel's
blog yesterday laureldaniel.blogspot.com and was impressed with her
value studies . . . wonderful drama without color!

I like your colors and those beautiful, long stems. And that dark red shadow is so dramatic.

I saw Laurel's value studies and they're great. I really should spend some time doing some. You certainly have values down!

This is beautiful! Love the planes and the values.

I really have problems with values. I never get the darks dark enough! I always have to go back and add more darks.

I have a suggestion. I think you should add your blog link to your profile. When you comment on a blog, people click on your profile to see who you are. There isn't a link to your blog, so people can't visit.

Thank you, Linda! I was gearing up to try a value study
today but it's so gray and gloomy . . . not complaining!
:-) Value studies are probably something we should all do frequently. This blog has really helped me to focus and get clear about what I'm doing--I do so appreciate your encouraging comments.

Virginia---I also have problems with darks. I lay them down but in trying to make value transitions, I tend to make darks disappear into mush. I cannot describe to you my feeling of being enamored of a fresh dark which 5 minutes later is mud! Where did it go? There is no way to "add" darks (so far in my experience). I have to scrape off the paint and make the darks new. And then let no brush go anywhere near them. Or . . . let my head get no where near them! :-)
"Add my blog link to my profile?" Duh. I had no clue. I will try to figure that out. Amazing suggestion. Thank you soooo much!

You did it!

Your description of what happens to the darks is perfect!
