Melancholia

A change of pace. I've been working on a portrait to give as a gift
and it's been a painstaking process to get a likeness and still have the
paint look fresh so I switched gears and indulged in thick paint!

How exciting! So much that is characteristic of your style yet a subject matter that is rare for you. The many grays you've used are wonderful against the areas of warmth like the golds and red. The texture is thrilling - with the canvas showing in some areas and a heavy impasto in others. Whoo-hoo! You had me at first glance!
