I shot this at sunrise and the background was very dark—dramatic
photo with brilliant flowers but I had a hard time painting the background
as dark as it was—too much color in the black or the wrong temperature.
I've had to do a lot of trial and error lately with backgrounds to set off
colors in the foreground. It would be so nice to just "know" which value
and temperature would work. The plastic container also looked jet black
but when I mixed an interesting cool black, it looked dead and cold.
It'll be fun to have a few more tries with this and vary the composition
and colors.

I think you captured that sunrise glow quite well!
Belle réussite pour ton noir si bien travaillé, le fond rend très bien; Tes couleurs et l'effet de brillance est très réussi! j'aime l'évolution de ton travail puisque je suis ton blog depuis un moment déjà.

The colors in the background and shadows are beautiful. I think if they were darker you would miss those colors. This is a very nice painting.
It doesn't matter to me if you captured what you saw because I love the end result VERY MUCH.
The mixtures of colors are dramatic and give me goose bumps. Wonderful.
I really like the abstract shapes in this one Lorraine. When I enlarged the picture, all the colours in the darks popped out, showing me what more what it looks like in real life. It was a whole new painting! I particularly like the colourful shadows of the pots. Well done!
I think this is glorious, the flowers pop very well and there is a beautiful glow to them.
Great shapes. I really like it.
It looks like a sunrise painting. The colors are so pretty. Well done, Lorraine!
Beautiful painting ........I love the backlighting ....superb!
Very successful to me! I enjoy the shapes, the composition is really interesting and catches me a bit off guard.
I love this little series of pansies, especially this one. The shadows are very exciting. Now I have to go back and enlarge them all to see what I missed the first time around.
