I've been working really hard (struggling) with figures on 16 x 20.
Don't know yet if there's improvement with them but thought I'd tackle a
small still-life for a change of pace. I feel pretty pleased with this and it
gave me some much needed respite from struggle—wondering if the
figure paintings taught me something after all, even if they're not up
to snuff. I tried to work slowly, no swash-buckling strokes (but tried to
make them look like it), was judicious with a very narrow aim: just make it
look lit. It took a few tries with different color background darks to make the
lights pop but mostly it was fun!

It's beautiful! I like the reflections. But, most of all I am happy to see you posting!! Missed you!! Would love to see your figure paintings, too. I'm sure they are not as bad as you seem to think.
Yes! Yes! It should be fun, a little struggling, but mainly fun. Love the dark background.
And it's very expensive Lorraine succeeded! Pears are ripe to perfection and materials that surround them are perfect, I love these contrasts between matte and shiny! Kudos to you! Good weekend! Nice

Gorgeous and sophisticated colour palette Lorraine. Beautiful quality of light. It's great to sometimes turn from subject that requires great concentration and bust free a bit! I love the figurative work you've been doing too.
Love the color, especially on the two main pears. The planes are clearly definable and the background is deliciously mysterious! My kind of painting!!
