Each time I think I've learned something to apply to
future paintings, it doesn't work again. Maybe that's as
it should be? So one always stays present and finds a
unique solution to the painting at hand? Still it would be
nice to feel like progress has been made with the craft of
painting but I'm still not getting the kind of surface I'm after.
Or, think I'm after. But then, there's also something to be
said about noticing what was done well enough, accept it
and look forward to the next one.

I think as artists we all share the same quest and frustrations. This has a special quality, maybe not what you were after but maybe what was meant to be.
I think this is one of my favorites so far, there is a freshness in the colors that I really like. I wonder what the surface you are after look like.

You're a hard critique on yourself! There are some wonderful colors at play here. They keep the eye engaged and moving around. Don't stop pushing yourself. It's how progress is achieved. Personally I think this painting is very nice.
It's beautiful, Lorraine! Love the colors and texture on the apples.
I agree with Jane about the "fresh" quality it has, Lorraine. Wonderful shadows on the pitcher along with the red reflected light from the apples. It is very appealing!
Wonderful brushwork= love the warm and cool colors too!
The parts are beautiful. I like the point of view and composition. You have done a great job here. Be kind to yourself.
