Lemon Coven

This is the 12 x 16 I was struggling with when I took a breather and
tried an oil sketch. Might be a good idea to do a sketch before attempting
a larger painting? It was still helpful to have a time out midway. The
difficulties I have are related to the way I see the paint I've put down.
I persist in thinking I could do it better so I hone in on the objects and
forget the rest of the surface. I feel I'm doing less of that and thinking
more in terms of light, texture, composition . . . how to make the surface
sing. I did the green background first and had lovely drips. Then painted
them out. I wasn't brave enough. Baby steps . . .

Bonjour,
Gros bisous.

Wonderful painting. I love the background and the depth I feel is there. The lemons are just fabulously done. Wonderful job and you are so hard on yourself! Love the light in front of the lemons also.

Your yellow and green colors in the background bring such a vigor!
I noticed when you said "letting brushstrokes to be nothing more than brushstrokes".I think is "du lâcher-prise", let-it-be(?), I'll remember it, thank you!
Your work is so beautiful and strong!

Hi Lorraine.
Just found your blog through you becoming a follower of mine. Glad that I have because I love your work.
Your style is spot on as far as I am concerned. Talking about a sketch before one paints, well, I never do this and at the moment I don`t intend to either. I just like to get stuck in to a subject that I want to paint and thats it really. Lemon Coven is a wonderful painting, I`m glad you didn`t do a sketch for this one because it shows you didn`t need one. I love the background as it is, perfect. I`m a follower of yours now. All the best Lorraine.
Vic.

Hi Lorraine, I love this newest post. Your textures, light and form and fantastic, and you're really capturing a sense of realism accompanied by a wonderful loose abstract element. I'm jealous! We have family from France visiting for a month, so my posting and painting is sporadic. Keep up the beautiful work!

Hi Lorraine,

This is really gorgeous. Loose but also structured enough to show the reality in a poetic way.

Love that title! The thick paint on this is luscious! Great shadow and light. Nice job!
