Liaison Sold

This little painting was scraped off four times, each time because it
was getting too precious. The goal was to be conscious about
"coloring outside of the lines." With each scraping, I felt the point
was no longer to get a decent painting to post, but to just keep
practicing. I stopped with this attempt because it seemed . . .
decent enough to post. :-)

Lorraine,
It is very much decent enough to post and beyond...I like it! Very texturey and love all the colors! The stems and leaves are good! You are too hard on yourself:) Really a nice painting.

I have to laugh at your "precious" comment. I know exactly what you are talking about. I like this one and it looks like you got around to making it not too precious.

I have been trying to figure out how to put a translator on the blog, but no luck yet. If anyone has experience with this, please help!

It looks like the thick paint in tiles. You do it well. I've experimented with it in a different way, but see what you mean. These look really good.

I love it, and I love the dark background, it creates such a rich depth.

It's great Lorraine! I love your style. I need to unprecious my work. I always find paintings that suggest and have interesting edges so full of life. Just to let you know, I've been trying to comment to you in the last few days, and the comment window wouldn't open. I love your painting and of the pointsettia as well, and I don't think I was ever able to comment. Thanks for visiting!

I love this! Beautiful brushstrokes on the oranges and leaves. And I like the suggestion of orange reflected light on the table. Very nice!

And my work is sooo precious! MY OCD kicks in and I just have to correct every little thing until I have corrected and worried it to death. That's why I'm trying the Leffel painting style. I hope some of it rubs off on me.

I love your loose brush strokes and the fact that you worked hard at getting "not too precious." That's a difficult thing to attain. Well done!

Mom,

I love this one. It looks like you are not trying to make is special... it's just rugged, but the subject of cherries is just so sweet. And the colors are so bold... the background and foreground are opposing forces... like 2 misfits. :)

I like the texture and how they peek out from under the leaves.
